The Center’s multi-disciplinary team develops evidence for action, providing decision makers with the tools they need for sustainable capacity building to prevent, detect and respond to public health emergencies. The team incorporates expertise in epidemiology, microbiology, virology, animal and human health systems, demography, economics, finance, statistics, and law. Upcoming Events: There is a lot going on at the Center – join us for an upcoming event . Announcements: Considering the multitude of complex dynamics inherent to their transmission, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are ideally suited for consideration within a One Health approach. Dr. Claire Standley will serve as a guest editor of a Special Issue in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease that will explore the process by which the One Health concept is being applied to NTD control around the world, with an emphasis on multisectoral and integrated approaches at the regional, national, and/or subnational levels. The deadline for manuscript submission is 30 June 2020. Please see the article solicitation for more information Earlier this year, the World Health Organization released its Global Influenza Strategy 2019–2030. While the new strategy is a welcome step, Dr. Mark Eccleston-Turner , Dr. Alexandra Phelan , and Dr. Rebecca Katz believe that it should also address potential barriers to pathogen sharing, the use of influenza genetic-sequence data for vaccine development, and global response capabilities. Read their commentary here: Preparing for the Next Pandemic — The WHO’s Global Influenza Strategy Following the 2014–2016 Ebola crisis in West Africa, the President of Guinea established a new agency solely dedicated to preparedness and response to public health emergencies. In this context, Aurelia Attal-Juncqua , Claire Standley , Anna Tordjmann , Gian Luca Burci , and Rebecca Katz completed a research project to assess the legal and regulatory basis for activities related to public health emergencies management across the Guinean government.
